| About 5,000 people live in Chornobyl nowadays. Nobody permanent, but there are lots of contract workers, police, military staff and even a small city administration. When people started to live here again it was to risky to dig in the soil so the new remote heating pipes are constructed above ground. On several places in the town they pass over the streets on large steelbeams. | |
